E-waste Management Rules – 2022, passed by the Government of India, mandate essential guidelines for Producers & Manufacturers of Electronic Equipment for managing their end-of-life products as part of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR). These new rules (2022), which supersede the previous set of e-waste rules (2016) have brought in a plethora of changes to the system of management of E-Waste and fulfillment of EPR targets by Producers. Producers are required to meet their annual EPR targets through purchase of digital EPR Credits from authorized E-Waste recyclers, and file returns to the Central Authority (CPCB) from time to time, providing details of collection and target achievement during the period.
